Thrills shot through Castiel making him shudder. He wasn't sure how long it had been since the leviathan had vanished from sight. He was no longer completely connected to his vessel, which made it difficult to judge elements like time and location. However strange waves of cruel glee had been vibrating through him for what seemed like hours. Castiel wondered what horrible wrath the creature was visiting upon the world outside Jimmy.
Once he was sure he was alone Castiel had begun to try taking hold of his vessel again. Every time he lifted his hands and reached for the threads of Jimmy's nervous system he grasped at goo. Everything was slick as if smeared with oil. Before long he let his arms sink back into the water and ground his teeth in frustration. Not for the first time his mind filled with memories. He could feel Dean's strong hands lifting him to his feet when he could not will his legs to do so. He could hear the waver in Bobby's voice when he spoke. He could feel Sam crumble when he pushed the wall down.
A feeling swelled deep within Castiel. He needed them to hear him; he needed their last meeting to not be their parting. His mind reeled for ways to reach them. Through his vessel it could not yet be done but as an angel few things where beyond his reach. Angels could enter the Dreaming and speak to people regardless of protective sigils or distance. Castiel moved himself into the dream realm and searched for signs of his friends. He looked for the old hunter's house filled with dusty books and memories. An apartment rented for a few weeks with a golden dog on the carpet. Most of all he sought the giant house of the Winchester's youth. A home to the young family, a mighty castle to one small green-eyed boy.
Though he was thorough he found no dreams belonging to those people he knew and made to return back to reality when something caught his eye. It was and it wasn't Sam Winchester. He seemed almost spectral as though he were struck between the waking world and the Dreaming. He was watching Castiel, face pale, body frozen in a seated position and yet Castiel saw no chair. He wondered at this strange phenomenon.
"Sam?" he asked taking a step closer. Though the vision did not reply Castiel could tell from the look in his eyes that he heard. The angel felt a smile niggling at the edges of his downturned lips. He wondered if he'd smile again. He opened his mouth to speak but something coiled around him, choking the air from his lungs and the words became a husky cry. In an instant he was back in the watery cave constricted by a massive scaly twist of skin. The scales where like sharpened shields cutting at his body as they pulled tighter.
"Why do you keep me here? You have this vessel!" Castiel snarled, desperate to return to the Dreaming and catch Sam before he slipped away. He had to let them know he was still alive. A rumbling laugh that climbed in pitch cackled through the air.
"Do you really think we would keep the wagon and not the horse?" it sniggered "As long as you're here with us they will not kill this vessel "
"They will, they know that saving this world is more important then saving me" Castiel shot back trying to wriggle free earning little more then some extra tatters in his suit. Gravity dove as the coil wrapped around Castiel dunked him deep under the water.
"The old sucker would" it mused voice echoing around. Castiel followed the sight of what held him, the body seeming to stretch on forever coming in and out of view for miles.
"The younger Winchester'd end you no doubt " It was then that he caught a glimpse of it's head. It's eyes were like those of a shark, lifeless and sunk in its horrible face. Jowls hung from a gaping mouth stories high and lined with thin, sharp and thick crooked teeth. Castiel had never seen such a fearsome beast. He supposed even Lucifer would fear it.
"But not Dean" it smiled as Castiel struggled for a breath of air "I could see it through your eyes as I tossed him against the wall. The way he stared up at us
He will not allow it. No Castiel you will stay here, you will stay quiet or you will drown forever"
